H1 figures compare Jan–Jun 2026 to Jan–Jun 2025, both fully complete quarters.

All-in-one job management software, built for UK trade businesses

The client is an all-in-one job management platform for field service and trade businesses: electricians, plumbers, HVAC engineers, cleaners, gardeners, pest control and more. It covers scheduling, CRM, quoting, invoicing and team management from one dashboard, built for teams that live on mobile, not at a desk.

Growth is driven by demo requests and free sign-ups, supported by visibility across both traditional and AI-driven search.

What the client gave us before we wrote a single word

Every engagement starts with their view of the business, not ours.

01

Product

How the platform is packaged, priced and positioned: scheduling, invoicing, CRM and more.

02

Buyer personas

Who actually buys, and what they're trying to solve when they start looking.

03

Industry insights

The trades the client serves, and how each one searches differently.

04

Competitors

The tools the client is compared against, in their own words. That was the starting point for the analysis that followed.

Mapping demand across every trade the client serves

One UK product, buried under seven copies of its own site

What the technical, content and SEO audit actually found.

01

Seven markets, one identical site

/in/, /us/, /eu/, /aus/, /nz/, /can/ and /sa/ each mirrored the UK site word for word: same copy, same metadata, none of it localised. Together they added roughly 2,500 duplicate URLs, about 16% of total traffic.

Duplication was diluting the pages that actually mattered.

02

Bottom-funnel pages doing middle-funnel work

The two core product pages were both trying to rank for broad, comparison-style searches. True middle-of-funnel content, such as listicles and alternatives pages, didn't exist yet.

Nothing was built to be found, or cited, mid-funnel.

03

Invisible to the crawlers that mattered most

Duplicate H1s, one generic title tag sitewide, a sitemap still serving dead pages, orphaned feature pages with no internal links, and a Cloudflare rule silently blocking AI crawlers from reaching the site at all.

Buyers researching with AI couldn't find the client, because AI couldn't reach it.

Sizing up who the client was actually competing with

Before building anything, we benchmarked the three closest competitors on traffic, links and site structure.

Competitor Monthly organic traffic Backlinks Referring domains
Competitor A 13,100 11,500 1,900
Competitor B 18,200 23,600 1,000
Competitor C 2,800 3,000 700

Competitor B invests in genuinely localised country sites, with real translations rather than duplicated English copy. That's the difference between legitimate international SEO and what the client's regional pages were doing before the trim.

A three-part plan, sequenced for the fastest wins

Everything the audit and competitor analysis turned up rolled into one roadmap, with the first 90 days front-loaded.

01

Fix the foundation

Make the site technically sound: on-page elements, schema markup, no unnecessary duplicate pages, every valid crawl issue resolved.

02

Build the middle

Serve content that answers middle-of-funnel search queries, and put the client forward as a viable solution.

03

Build authority

Own every social proof profile, including G2, Capterra and Software Advice, with consistent messaging throughout.

Seven copies, collapsed into one clean site

The core UK site was solid. The problem was everything stacked on top of it, so we removed what wasn't working and kept what was.

Before: the exact same site, live at seven addresses

/in/ /us/ /eu/ /aus/ /nz/ /can/ /sa/

Roughly 2,500 duplicate URLs, about 16% of total traffic, none of it localised. /in/ was removed entirely, and /sa/ was corrected to /za/: it had been tagged for Saudi Arabia instead of South Africa.

After: one UK-first structure

UK site
US EU CA AU NZ ZA

Lightweight, correctly hreflang-tagged stubs for other markets: homepage, demo, pricing and FAQ only.

2,500+ duplicate URLs removed from Google's index, with 301 redirects throughout so no existing backlink broke.

Fixing what search engines could actually see

Technical debt was quietly capping every other improvement. We cleared it first.

Title tags

WordPress was overriding Rank Math's title tags sitewide. Reversed, so every page's real, optimised title renders.

H1 headings

Every core page now renders one correct, keyword-led H1, not a duplicate of its neighbours.

Sitemap

Fixed a sitemap that was still generating URLs for pages that were no longer live.

Orphan pages

Added internal links from bottom-funnel pages into feature pages that had none pointing to them.

Cannibalisation

Redirected "what is X" blog posts into the bottom-funnel page they were competing against for the same query.

Structured data

Extended schema across landing and blog pages, including sameAs data linking to the client's G2 and Capterra profiles.

We found the site was invisible to AI, then fixed it

Some of the biggest wins sit outside traditional SEO. This one sat in the site's security settings.

01 · The situation

The content was being crawled and indexed by traditional search bots without issue.

02 · The gap

A Cloudflare bot-management rule was silently blocking AI crawlers (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI systems) from reaching the site at all. Nothing in Search Console would ever have surfaced it.

03 · The fix

We allow-listed the known AI crawler user agents, so the client's own content could finally be read, referenced and cited.

04 · The result

The client now surfaces directly inside AI answers, across three major platforms.

This is what AI-search readiness looks like in practice: not just ranking, but being reachable at all.

Building the middle of the funnel from nothing

The client had strong bottom-funnel pages and no middle-funnel content. We built the bridge between them.

Building third-party signals AI systems can cite

Vendor selection leans on third-party validation, and AI visibility depends on being mentioned elsewhere.

Frequency and consistency of mentions across independent sources is what AI search rewards.

Third-party coverage

A placement in an independent “best cleaning business software” roundup: exactly the kind of comparison-style content AI systems pull from.

Google AI Overview “alternatives to [a leading competitor]”

Google’s AI Overview singled out the client as the lightweight, budget-friendly pick: straightforward enough for smaller teams that don’t need every feature under the sun.

ChatGPT “best invoice software for field service workers uk”

ChatGPT listed the client first in its comparison table, as the best fit for small to mid-sized field teams.

Claude “best field service management software for uk tradesmen”

Claude placed the client among its picks for sole traders and small teams, highlighting the easy-to-use, all-in-one dashboard as the standout.

In their words

“Platypus’s work has resulted in enhanced visibility and increased demos and trials, leading to overall growth for [the client]. The team has commendable project management, consistently provides timely deliverables, and communicates effectively via virtual meetings, emails, and messages.”
